The right crew for you

We aim to gain an equal understanding of matching candidates’ skills and aspirations to compliment the dynamics and needs of the vessel to fulfill both parties equally.

Our Process:

Our core ambition with starting Frey was to offer a true personal approach to recruitment. Advertising, interviewing and reference checking can take valuable time from clients so we do the leg work for you and provide only carefully selected candidates.

Having been on both sides of the hiring process, we are well aware of the intricacies and obstacles that can arise.

We aim to gain a thorough understanding of your brief, the boat and the dynamics, and then seek to find the most suitable candidates who match your requirements and exceed expectations.

We are both passionate and hard-working individuals who still have a love and respect for the super yacht industry. We bring this attitude and knowledge to every placement.

Things to consider when hiring:

It can be challenging finding the right crew for you, and there are many factors that need to be considered when hiring. Not only do candidates need to be capable, have appropriate skillsets and experience, they may also require minimum certifications.

Equally important though, is that they are the right characters to compliment the dynamic you are hoping for onboard. You need to feel comfortable and at ease in their company, and you need to trust them entirely with your safety, your asset, with planning, budgeting and expenses.

Below are some initial things to consider when reviewing and interviewing candidates:

  • Experience – Is it relevant and sufficient for you to feel confident in their abilities
  • Qualifications – Although qualifications don’t always mean perfect crew, it can be a legal reuirement for flag state, but it also demonstrates a minimum level of competency
  • Characters- Do you find them easy to communicate with, do they instill confidence. You will potentially be spending a lot of time with them and it helps if they are likeminded people and can relate easily to the atmosphere you hope to have onboard
  • Salaries- We are happy to guide with salary brackets for positions, as this can sometimes feel like a grey area.
  • References- We will only present candidates who have positive references. As well as written references, we will ensure we get verbal references to back these up.
  • Interviews- If it’s not possible to meet in person, we find that a video call can be much more helpful when interviewing candidates. You can get a much better feel for someone seeing their expressions, how they present and hold themselves.
